Payard Bistro and Patisserie

I am so loaded with work the past few days, I have class everyday and tons of meeting with people wanting more information about the food business. I have also been savouring good wine the past three days since I have been dining out, the other night at Le Regalade with old chef friends, then with Gino and the students, and last night with my Ate Cynthia andsome great friends who just want to hang around. Forget about the present and let’s talk about the food I ate in New York, it wasn’t as eventful as that of last year but I had a share of worthy to write about food eating….

I had lunch with Tess, a cousin who works at the Warldorf Astoria, this was at Vong, the Asian Fusion restaurant that was not as wonderful as I expected it to be, even the plating was just regular…again, I will remark on the Mcdonald’s Angus Burger which was really good…I went walking one whole day looking for Payard Patisserie and Bistro….the display was impeccable, beautiful in its own right. They had three or four wedding cakes on display and a full service restaurant with a French speaking staff. I got a bundle of pastries, cakes and bread to make up for all the walking I did. In 5th Avenue, there was another patisserie I passed that I just can’t remember with a beautiful display of French tarts on its window one could never resist. The lunch and dinner prix fixe in school restaurant L’Ecole, FCI was very good and cheap with the discount given as a student, it was a joy for me to savour food made by students and teachers who were part of my month’s stay was just too nostalgic to think of. While walking around Soho, I get to see the commissary of Ron-Ben Israel, the famous wedding cake maker, hoping to enter and see his display, it was only open for clients and for others, by appointment, so who was I?…..In my depression, got some shoes from Trentorn ( it’s back with a new look and such an expensive price ) and Camper. Shopping is really great….it was also in one of these walks near Balthazar Bistro that I hear someone shouting my name, Jun Jun! over and over again! It was a long lost friend from college, Cindy Batac, who I haven’t seen for almost 20 years. How the world is so small and tiny…..under the rain, I meet her husband and promised to see her when I get back from DC. I enjoyed P.F. Chang, as well as the other fast food places I ate in, even the Broadway branch of Yoshinoya….hehehe…enjoy the pictures.
