June 28, 2008 – Got a call yesterday from a friend and student, Trish asking me if I wanted to go to the Salcedo Weekend Market and I readily said yes….I have been tinkering with these idea for weeks but didn’t have the time due to my weekend classes. Dreaming of having my suman, Budbud Kabog (Visayan Suman, made from millet seeds) which is the best one I ever tasted. I was there before 10 and was surprised that it was also the weekend that Yummy was sponsoring some type of event.

Went around and around before deciding what to buy and finally eat….saw this fruit stand with imported fruits not popular in our country, it had pomegranate, European pears, dragon fruit, Japanese melon and a lot more.

Saw the best maja blanca in town, we got some to bring home and it is really one of the best ones I ever had, creamy, flavorful and the coconut cream was so rich from Gng Bukid

…..Wanted to try the old style big ensaymada that had a lather of rich butter and sugar. We decided on trying the following for brunch, the French man’s Pain Au Chocolat, a bit dense, had little puff and chocolate had some bits I could not describe, he was selling artisan bread that was a bit pricey for this crowd. Paella, I just don’t know where they bought it.

Got two satisfying dishes from Ome – a duck stew and tinapa rice, that were both very good. The stew was just right, was tender and the sauce was not too sour and had a gourmet flavor to it with olives and mushrooms. The tinapa rice was with salted egg and fresh tomatoes, maybe in two hours it would have been spoiled due to the heat in the area.

Got to taste and a few slices of cake from my friend Joey Prat’s Sweet Symphony stall, his Ultimate Chocolate Cake is so good, has some raspberry filling placed it between the fudge chocolate icing. There were tons of people I saw from Mia Villanueva, my boss from preschool cooking classes, Audrey Tan a student who was there looking for food to buy and bring home to serve her husband, Monique and Cris Villonco, friends from way back who I get see in a lot of food related places but don’t seem to get fat at all, Becky Kho, my Yummy editor just looking around at what’s happening to her event and Patrick Rosas, the Philippines’ best make up artist with his crew eating to their hearts delight…Friends who love to eat and be there….hehehe.

Photos were taken by Trish Tan, my camera was on low bat and her camera’s a bit more high tech than mine. Thanks Trish, another trip this week?
